I believe granny gave the best advice. Growing up in the Mississippi Delta I was fortunate enough to live simple life. Life seem to move slower than in big bigger city. As I was growing and learning one of my best teachers was granny. She was always wanting to give me words of wisdom on any and every subject I have to bout. The best advice and lessons always came from real life experiences. All I had to do was ask a question and she would give me an answer. The answer usually came with some type of experience she had growing up. One lesson she taught me came with a little pain. I was eight years old and she was teaching me how to box. That's right box as in prize fight as she called it. We cleared our usual space in the living room and she was giving me lessons on how to stand hold my hands protect my head and move around. As we began to move around the room she hit me with a right hook.

I think one key to success and learning new vocabulary is to study vocabulary by topic. Too often people study vocabulary words here and there. There really is no focus. So what my idea would be, let's say, that you focus on the home or or if. Start by studying the furniture that goes in the living room and try for it should go in he bedroom and then by studying topics or themes you often see connections to the words. Rather than choosing one word about sports and one word about medicine and so forth so having a theme can really help.
