Hello Everyone, I hope you’re enjoying Week #6. Thank you so much for your excellent work on the discussion board. The discussion is now open and it will be open until 10pm on Wednesday. This week in addition to thinking through the readings from all of this semester and this week, we are also watching a video and thinking through the ways that the lecturer, Ken Robinson, considers failures and needs in education, thinking through how those thoughts from Ken Robinson apply to our experiences in K-12 education and our hopes and goals for K-12 education, as well as how his ideas relate to the ideas in Adult Education, such as self-directive learning and something that we’ll be talking more about next week- transformational learning. I hope that you are enjoying the video. I did not post it because I think you should agree with everything Ken Robinson says, but rather because it’s a great jumping off point to have a discussion about how we can improve education. In addition to your discussion this week, you do have another personal journal entry due. Thank you so much for all of your work on your educational autobiographies. This week you will be thinking through the qualities of your best K-12 education teachers and those teachers who were less effective. It’s really important in this educational autobiography entry that you be very specific. You really want to think about what were the exact qualities of the teachers that you had that made them great, or maybe not so great. At this point you should be thinking through your Site Visit Report which is due at the end of Week #8, right before we go on spring break. Because you have to do a site visit, it is very important to plan in advance where you would like to go and what you’re going to be looking for in your site visit. The assignment guidelines for the site visit are posted in the Assignment Guidelines folder. I hope you all find a very interesting and exciting adult education program to observe, and I really look forward to hearing our thoughts on those observations. Thank you so much for your patience on the grading of the Adult Education Definition and Postionality papers. The papers will all be returned back to you tonight- by the end of the day. I have received them back from the Writing Coach and you will receive both my comments in one attachment and a separate attachment from the Writing Coach. I will also let you know if you have been referred to the ADE Writing Forum for assistance with your writing. Please do not be upset if are referred to the Writing Forum. We all have different skills and some of you have not had the opportunity to fully develop your writing skills in your undergraduate education. That’s okay because we offer you a free service here in the Adult Education program to strengthen your writing. We know that employers want to see Master’s level prepared students who have strong writing skills and strong critical thinking skills, and those are two things that we work very hard on here in the Adult Education program at Buffalo State. If you weren’t referred to the Writing Forum but you will like to be part of the forum, which is available through Blackboard, please just send me an email and I will be happy to add you. As always, if you have any questions or concerns about the way your paper was scored or you think it was scored unfairly or incorrectly, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am happy to discuss with you in detail the score that you received and I am always open to hearing reasons as to why the score should be changed. At this point, I think we are moving pretty quickly to the mid-point of the semester. The snow outside makes it seem like the time is moving slowly, but I think our time together is moving very quickly. Next week you will be completing a midpoint review as part of your personal journal entry and then Week #8 is the official mid-point this semester. As always, please contact me if you would like to get together to meet via telephone, Skype, or in person. I have office hours this week, as usual. I have them today from 8am-9am and I will have them on tomorrow, on Wednesday from 8am-12pm. I am also happy to meet with you at a time that is more convenient for you. All you need to do is send me an email. Lastly, the “Ask the Instructor” discussion boards are open. Unfortunately, in one section of AED 500 I did have to create a new “Ask the Instructor” board. If you haven’t done so yet, please be sure to subscribe to that board so that you can receive notices when questions and responses are posted. Thanks again for all your hard work everyone. Thanks for your patience regarding the grading of the Adult Education Definition and Positionality papers. In the future all of your papers will be returned back within one week. Have a great week and weekend!

Well after a little over 3 months of leaving the UK back in November 2013. We arrived back in Harry's yesterday afternoon just at the beginning of March 2nd of March. So we've been away for the entire winter and in the process we've chased the cold all the way across Scandinavia and Siberia to the pole and cold and back. So we've travelled more than 35000 kilometres and it's just incredible when you sit and think about how far we've driven. We've driven further East than Japan we've driven as far East as the East coast of Australia. I meant it's that longitude that we hit before turning round and coming back and last night just before I went to bed I was scanning through some pictures and just remembering all the fabulous things we've seen and the amazing people we've met.

I dredged up a recording I made back in November and misplaced, so I decided that I would put it out as episode 90. I was doing a maf run on the Greenway trail. Originally broadcast Jan 16, 2014.

On bitterly cold New England day, with snow flurries falling all around: I find myself in sunny, warm Ft. Meyers Florida at the Spring Training camp of my beloved Boston Red Sox, who took to the field for their very first games of 2014 against my old technical school: Northeastern University and for the double header, Boston College. It was a very good day.
