Interesting thoughts on media140 and engagement. I didn't see the SOMESSO stuff so don't know the difference, but you've got my mind whirring about better ways of engaging external users for events.

Really interesting from an outside perspective. I was at both Somesso and at Media140. Media140 was a lot about sharing views in person and I know when I spoke to Ande who organised it the thinking was that the wall's distracting - people watch that instead of listening to the speakers. It was an object lesson - lots of people were heads down into their Tweetdecks instead of looking up.

I think if you've got a video stream going or are creating noise on a medium like Twitter which engages others, you need to be paying attention to what that wider audience is saying. SOMESSO was my first experience of having the backchannel as the frontchannel alongside the speaker, and I have to say that I thought we kept the engagement going. I didn't find it distracting either as a speaker or from the audience - in fact I felt it enriched the sessions.
